the movement

Upon meeting, Ethan and Gigi became quickly acquainted with their shared divine purpose: to begin a political revolution through the power of theatre. This is not a joke, despite having met in an elementary level improv class. Nothing Ethan & Gigi do is “funny.” In fact, they did not make one single person laugh in their improv class, and it became clear through the anger and frustration of their classmates that these two weren’t here to make people laugh, they were here to make people free.

Marx, Malcolm, Mao…BORING! Ethan (he/they, queer, white - sorry) and Gigi (any pronouns, Asian, queer who only dates white men, poor) are committed to making the revolution irresistible. After learning how to spell “bougieousue”, they turned on the Les Mis soundtrack and began doing “The Work” (skimming Wretched Of The Earth).

Believing that revolution starts on the Off-Broadway stage, spills out into the streets, and sparks inside the heart of America, these two overconfident artists team together to raise the morale of the masses and create REAL political action - by doing America's first good 9/11. THE MOVEMENT takes the revolution off of the streets and puts it onto the stage where it belongs. You’re right, Gil, the revolution will NOT be televised. It will be at the SoHo Playhouse on September 11th, 2025.

Against the backdrop of post 9/11 America, THE MOVEMENT weaves together themes of queerness, racial identity, and class, and asks: “in our fervor to remember, what do we forget?” (citation).

"These kids are funny, brave, some of the hardest workers I've ever met, and also might be legitimately unwell in a mental sense, I'm not certain. Either way, huge fan. Restores my faith and makes me believe in the connective power of comedy." - Chris Gethard

“THE MOVEMENT is timely, audacious and deeply stupid (complimentary).” - Riley Soloner

“It’s smart, funny, and completely unpredictable. I like how something can be so smart and so dumb at the same time.” - McKenna Mobus

“Irreverant mayhem. All of my jaws were on the floor the whole show." - Hannah Mitchell

“True epic.” - David Levy
