bipolar badass

Bipolar Badass tells a story of learning to live with an undesirable new identity. This dark comedy shows the reality of receiving a chronic diagnosis while confronting society’s ignorant—yet often humorous—perceptions of bipolar disorder.

At nineteen, Mari was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She imagines her illness as a fire-breathing dragon in her brain—passed down through genetics. When her late grandmother places the dragon’s leash in her hands, Mari is forced to confront a fate she never chose.

“This is yours now.”

“But I don’t want it.”

“Neither did I.”

Bipolar Badass shares a journey that began twelve years ago of an attempt to reclaim identity in the face of shame and adversity. If we have power over fear, what is there to be scared of?
