About this Performance

This isn’t a live show—it’s a screening of a comedy special filmed without an audience, with only a camera, a comedian, and New York City as the backdrop.

Filmed across 40 locations over 21 days, each true story is told where it happened, creating a comedy experience unlike any other. Comedian and storyteller Kevin James Doyle recounts his journey to becoming a comedian while navigating careless landlords, stolen property, scam artists, and an ever-present empty bank account.

At its heart, this is a story about persevering as an artist in New York City. Though told by a comedian, the challenges, sacrifices, and barriers Kevin encounters will be familiar to anyone who has moved to the city to pursue a creative life. Funny, honest, and distinctly New York, the special captures the struggle—and absurdity—of refusing to give up on becoming the artist you came here to be.
