anthony devito: jersey boy

All boys want their fathers to be superheroes. Anthony DeVito’s father died when he was a baby. Armed with only one photo of the two of them, he created a loving, gentle and caring vision of his dad. Then, at 18 years old, Anthony’s mom finally told him who his dad really was—a made-man in an organized crime family. Over the course of this show, Anthony pieces together his father through newspaper findings, familial anecdotes and an acclaimed book written about the family. Watch a funny and heartfelt journey of family discovery told through the lens of a seasoned NYC comedian.

Most people have seen The Sopranos, Goodfellas, and The Godfather, etc. But this story differs in focus. Jersey Boy is told from the unique perspective of Anthony and his mom (Joanne). How does someone fall in love with a made-man? How do they reconcile being married to one? Then, after their husband dies, how does a mother go about raising a child? And what becomes of that child? How do THEY wrestle with their father being a violent criminal? This show begins where all those renowned organized crime shows and movies end. Anthony and Joanne are what’s left in the wake of entertainment.
