SoHo Playhouse in New York City is proud to officially participate in the 2017 Fringe International Encore Series. This year marks the 12th annual Fringe Encore Series. This will be the first year the series expands to include shows from Adelaide, Brighton, Edinburgh, Hollywood and Winnipeg Fringe Festivals. What is the Fringe Encore Series, you ask? After years of seeing buzz generated behind several Fringe shows, having them sell out all their festival performances and turn away people at the door and then finding them not being able to find the backing or a space to extend their production. We decided to do something about it. We have coupled with the historic SoHo Playhouse to produce a festival extending these worthy productions called Fringe Encore Series. The Series gives these shows an additional run at SoHo Playhouse in order to give these worthy shows a platform for future productions and successes here in New York City.
Running September and October 2017 this year’s series will present a selection of audience favorites and critical successes selected by a host of theatrical producers, directors and promoters selected from the top Off Broadway Theatres in New York. Many of the past productions in the series, such as Drama Desk Nominees Krapp 39 from FringeNYC 2008, Jamaica Farewell FringeNYC 2009 and Rap Guide To Religion from Edinburgh Fringe 2015 have gone on to extensive Off-Broadway runs and international success.
The Encore Series helps make this a reality by working with the shows and theaters providing visiting companies, the venue, press representation, technical support, advertising and marketing along with offering developmental advice for each production. Past audiences, along with critics and industry, have found the series to be one of the finest ways to discover emerging companies and writers.
The Series has teams of scouts going to each festival. Once a committee member expresses an interest in a specific show, a representative will make contact with the show to start inquiring as to interest and hopefully facilitating their inclusion in the Encore Series.
